Hazel O’Sullivan / About

Hazel is an Irish visual artist currently based in London after completing a Masters in Fine Art at The Chelsea College of Arts. Hazel has since completed artist residencies at PADA Studios in Lisbon, with Hypha Studios at Mason & Fifth in London, and has received the Solstice Visual Arts Award, 2022.

Interested in furniture and architecture, Hazel’s practice analyses style and periodic change from modernism to futurism, borrowing from the aesthetics of minimalism and retro-futurism specifically. The work combines elements of old and new, and challenges the boundaries between painting and sculpture, design and fine art. It reveals a fascination with perspective space, object and utility, architecture and design, and how they seem to appear in her own personal environments and public spaces. Hazel combines the familiar and the strange to create both friendly and hostile forms, playing with our visual comprehension of space occupied by furniture and architecture.

Based in Dublin and London.
